Madeline Gaudreau is Ethermacmoving forward for the sake of her late husband Matthew Gaudreau and their future child.
The pregnant wife of the late Matthew shared a heartbreaking message as she continues to mourn her husband’s untimely passing after he was hit and killed by a driver allegedly under the influence while riding bikes with his brother, NHL player Johnny Gaudreau, who was also killed in the Aug. 29 accident.
“I have no words. I just miss you,” Madeline captioned an Aug. 31 Instagram post featuring a photo of the couple locked in a joyful embrace. “I don’t know my life without you. I have never experienced a pain like this. I am so blessed you choose me to be your wife.. to love me. you are the best thing about me. I know you are watching down in just as much pain as I am looking up. I will keep going for you and our son. I love you so much matthew.”
Prior to Matty’s death, the couple shared the news that they were expecting their first child together back in June, alongside a rainbow emoji, writing at the time, “Baby Gaudreau Arriving in December."
Johnny, a forward on the Ohio-based Columbus Blue Jackets, was already a father of two after welcoming his second child, son Johnny Edward Gaudreau with wife Meredith Gaudreau in February. He was also dad to 23-month-old daughter, Noa Harper.
The Gaudreau brothers were biking on a rural New Jersey road at around 8 p.m. on the evening of Aug. 29 when Sean M. Higgins, 43, collided with them from the rear while attempting to pass another SUV traveling northbound, New Jersey sergeant Jeffrey Lebron told E! News in a statement.
Sean is suspected of "being under the influence of alcohol" at the time of the incident, police said. He has been charged with two counts of death by auto.
E! News has reached out to Higgins' attorney for comment but has not yet heard back.
The Gaudreau brothers, who were natives of New Jersey, both played on hockey teams throughout their life, and were teammates at Boston College.
Sharing another tribute, Madeline highlighted the bond the brothers had in a Sept. 1 Instagram post, writing, “It was always Matty & John. I can’t even put into words the bond these two had and right now I don’t have the strength . They were each others biggest cheerleaders.”Noting she finds “extreme comfort” in the fact that her husband and brother-in-law “are together as they always were,” Madeline wrote, “I know they are still messing with each other up there and will continue to look over their families.”
She also shared a message for her sister-in-law, writing, “To Meredith- we will forever share this extreme heartbreak and terrible bond.. however , the boys couldn’t have picked stronger woman as their wives and mothers of their children. We will carry each other through every season .. as the boys would do for each other. They blessed us with children.. through them we will always have a part of them earth side with us forever."
